Hello All,

I currently have a Bachmann engine in a million parts. Waiting to hear from Bachmann UK as to identification but its name plate states it as The Kings Regiment Liverpool. With a running number 6132 It has the most complicated valve gear ever. I have done quiet a lot of searching but can't track it down on the usual endless sites.

The previous owner seems to have had his share of troubles as several parts are glued on with what looks like Gorilla glue. Plan is to remove the damage and replace hopefully.

My other plan was to replace the motor which seems to be running but seems to have a lack of power. I was thinking of a 5 pole replacement. Any opinions on this modification would be great. Probably an older model but that's where my interest lie.

Can I ask please, does your locomotive have a splut chassis system where the wheels have a plastic axle insert between them to prevent it shorting the track power or does it have a motor cradle with gears attached which reach down to the wheels to transfer the rotation of the motor into forward or reverse motion ?

I ask this because if the locomotive has the latter ( motor cradle with gears ) then sourcing a 5 pole replacement shouldn't be too difficult although I am not sure which motor would be best for your loco or where to buy them from, however, if your locomotive is the original split chassis type, the motors which unfortunately are only 3 pole are readily available from Bachmann UK and I also recommend checking the axles to make sure they are not split as this will badly affect the quartering of the driving wheels.

The Royal Scot class of loco was built for the LMS Railway. When British Railways was formed amalgamating the LMS, GWR,LNER etc. some of the locos were renumbered, so the model you have had a 4 added to the start of the number on the side of the cab. So 6132 became 46132 and 6130 became 46130.

Think its been renamed/numbered as no listing gives Bachmann as producing that precise loco

I just wrote a lengthy reply to your post but seem to have lost it somehow. Looks like I forgot to hit post.

So here goes number 2. The model is a split chassis and quite a lump of metal. The axles are split as you said but the drive and front axle seem tight enough without exerting a lot of pressure. However the rear is going wherever it want to and confuses the linkage. The nylon bush is held together with a ring which is really soft and pretty well hopeless. I think it calls for a modification. I am thinking to remove the wheel square blocks if they punch out of the hub. I think there is a pin hole looking at the outside that might allow the squares to be removed.

The motor is locked into the chassis. But I am happy enough to do some metal work here to fit a 5 pole. I am not a purist and rather smooth slow running etc. with a 5 pole.

I have had this engine for a while but hesitated to work on it as it looked complicated. After pulling it apart I am impressed with its engineering. I am a convert and will probably look for other models later.

Common faiure of Kader produced split chassis locos which has given the desigh a bad reputation despite having been used successfully by other manuafactures. The Triang-Hornby Rocket being one.
