hornby r8072/r8073 points
Help has anyone a method of repairing the operating mechanism on Hornby r8072/8073 points .the joiner on the movable parts connected to the operating arm comes adrift and I have failed to replace it .I think very small plastic pins secure them ,then they are held by a top bar but always find the pins them broken.
Re: hornby r8072/r8073 points
I have had several of these points fall apart upon removal for a track layout revision, usually at the toe end sleepers as well as the tie bars, then failed miserably in my attempts to repair them and invariably ended up binning them.

I agree with Rob, don't even try to repair these points it's a waste of time, bin them, bite the bullet and buy new ones

When I ballast the track after laying new track I don't bother to ballast expensive points like double slips and the like, because they are so expensive to replace if you may want to change things later. only ballast the cheaper points............John

Have you considered rebuilding them using PCB type sleepers for any broken bits?
I rebuilt two Peco points using this method for 0-16.5 use.

I think most modellers would prefer to just go buy a knew one MG. I know I would. ....John

Maybe but it depends if one has the budget. New points are not cheap, even Hornby versions.

Also depends on ones skill MG. Not an easy job by any means for a novice.

I think you have been a tad unlucky. I have 24 hornby points, and have never had this problem. Surprising, really, as mine get moved on a regular basis, and many have had sleepers removed, and wires soldered across for DCC. May be. there was a dodgy batch. I certainly would not undertake trying to repair.
