Finally got to lay some track

I thought I would share some photos of my new started layout. https://i.postimg.cc/kDMYBQ7T/20230211-160059.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/gL0gQWgC/20230918-183132.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/GB1qrYMJ/20231027-225556.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/BjFMdNCn/20231110-220543.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/2qFT56Mp/20240213...

Re: New layout, advice

I think the perspex idea is good. I had thought of using a board along the 'danger ' side but perspex sounds good.
It would also stop little fingers creeping on while them watch the action.
I had already thought of limiting speed via CV, will do.

New layout, advice

I am about to start the build but have some concerns about the track design. I have attached the design. I realise it is a chase-the-tail type which is not everyone's preference but I would like that as my son will be using it as well. I wanted a large goods yard as well. I have kept all curves to m...

Re: Point Frog cutting disk

I was asking about gapping the closure rails on older points. My budget can't stretch to new points so I am using used ones. Thank you for all your advice. I have ordered some Dremel discs 0.64mm thick. I have some scrap, so can test the process and will consider the saw method if it doesn't work fo...

Point Frog cutting disk

Hi there

Can someone advise me of the disk (Dremel etc) they use in a Dremel to cut frog tracks.

I bought some disks but they were far too 'fat'.

What thickness of disk should look for, 1mm, 0.64mm ?

Maybe you can post a link?

Thank you

Re: Fundamental question on track quality

To tell the old steel track from newer Nickel Silver:

Use a magnet, it will stick to steel and not stick to Nickel Silver.

Re: Ebay classification changes

I didn't put into my first post as was not sure, but, I agree I think the change to Railroads was recent, now they are returning to a more generic name. Ebay are trying to make classification names more internationally friendly. So maybe they had a backlash from places like UK when they adopted an A...

Ebay classification changes

A bit off subject - but then I think this is a place for this! Ebay are getting rid of their Americanisms in their categories. In the past they have used: Model Railroads But they are trying to standardise across all their international sites, so are changing the category to: Model Railways & Tr...

Dear Brian, Thank you for the info. That makes sense. I'll bear it in mind when I come to build.

Re: New layout design - What do you think?

The Reverse Loop will need some attention, will need a R.L.M if a DCC layout. I had not noticed the Reverse Loop. It took me a while to see it. I little advise will help. I have attached another picture. There are two green circles. Can I isolate this track length and wire the RLM here? https://i.p...
