Re: Peco Unifrog Diamond Crossing
You will not need insulated rail joiners with Unifrog crossings unless you are using DC and the crossing is the boundary between two sections, or using DCC and it's the boundary between two power districts. Whether you power the frogs using switches is optional: if you don't have any short wheelbase...

Re: Peco Crossings - reliable or troublesome ?
Bear in mind that the Peco Bullhead track is to finescale standards, and any older locos and stock that do not have good wheel profiles will experience problems with these points and crossings. For example, early Hornby China-built locos had a back-to-back wheel measurement of 14.2mm, whereas later ...

Re: Insulated metal wheels?
Yes they are perfectly OK. Having one side live to the axle is very useful if you want to fit pickups, or resistors for occupnacy detection when using automation software.

Re: Ebay overseas postage.
If you want an item from Peters Spares, why not buy directly from his shop rather than through Ebay?

Re: Hornby BR(S) Green Bulleid Composite.
They still got them for around £40 a coach, so not terrible considering. I did buy 2 sets of the BR brakes + an odd one as I thought they would make a good parts donors if I didn't use them all. I have one SR composite coach here and at another SR composite on the way, which I may renumber/decal (p...

Re: Hornby BR(S) Green Bulleid Composite.
It appears for some reason Hornby made a lot of brakes but not many composites, as the brakes are dirt cheap and available readily from lots of sources ! Indeed they did make a big mistake, which is why retailers and Ebay are flooded with brakes and no-one has composites. 3 of the BR composites cam...

Re: Hornby BR(S) Green Bulleid Composite.
I would keep an eye on Ebay and perhaps have it email you when one of these is listed. A couple of days ago a set of 3 with the composite in BR colours went for £46. The BR and SR versions are the same colour, so you would not need a repaint just a number change. I have bought the 4 Bachmann coaches...

Re: Britannia class 7MT
Hornby did start moving the DCC socket to the tender after 2006 for many models, and this included provision for a speaker. I have 70004 as shown in that guide and it indeed has the socket in the tender. I also have both loco-mounted and tender-mounted models of Bulleid Pacifics, King Arthurs etc. I...

Re: First time bulding railway in shed .. good practices ?
My layout is in a properly converted loft and is 36x10ft. Neverthess being at the top of the house it still gets hot in summer - got to 39C when we had those record temperatures a while ago despite having all the roof windows open. All my track is Peco code 75 Streamline. I just use a small ribbon o...
