Re: Help needed to identify 'things'

Those bits look suspiciously like fixings for tension lock couplings, with two still attached to the spruce.

Re: Tapered Boiler Design

I'm afraid the Canadian snow drift/boiler explosion explanation looks like a bit of an urban myth. The GWR and others wouldn't have bothered with the extra expense of a tapered or conical boiler just in the rare case of derailment. There was, however, a serious thermal benefit to be gained from a ta...

Re: Ask a stupid question, get a brilliant answer...

The first two are Great Northern Railway locomotives. They are not RTR. I am unsure if they were available as kit built, but my guess is that they were scratchbuilt. The next loco near it looks something like "Lion"? (I am "Sketchy" with some locos like this). Second row... a So...

Re: Loco and brake van from different companies?

All Privately owned wagons were also regarded as "Not Common User" and when empty had to be worked back empty to the owner's siding without delay. Thanks for this very full reply, I find the above information especially interesting. I have this image of private wagons languishing in some ...

Re: Different sized wagons

Could the B’mann wagon be Ho. I'm not aware of Bachmann producing HO wagons. Trix were one of the first to offer PO wagons, and they worked to some strange scales such as 1/80, and it's possible that some Playcraft and early Lima HO wagons might be around, but they would all look considerably small...

Re: Different sized wagons

The problem is that over the years the various manufacturers have produced a multitude of PO wagons, but have generally failed to make an accurate scale model of a PO wagon. Mostly they have taken a wagon from their existing range and painted it as best they can. Often the wagon chosen is a more mod...

Re: VAN KIT WITH OPENING DOOR.

Gramodels do a resin cast LSWR van with one side door modelled open. https://www.gramodels.co.uk/docs/GRA_Sep2019_Brochure.pdf Look for page 10 Without digging my example out of the loft, I can't confirm whether it comes complete with axleboxes, buffers etc., but the body is a single piece moulding,...
