Re: Class 66`s
Apparently a very good model for the price but when it comes to which one, well that is entirely up to you.

Re: Class 66`s
You should have watched the BBC4 TV program with James May on Hornby I highlighted on here a while back. Thought there was going to be a right royal punch up between bosses of Hattons and Hornby El-Oh-El.eagle125 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 5:07 pmDidn`t know Hattons were doing one....... interestingbulleidboy wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 5:04 pm Perhaps you should wait and see what the Hattons version look like?

Think they had a cheek. They moaned at Hornby for bringing theirs out but Simon was right when he said Hattons were in the wrong, they are retailers not producers.

Its not long ago that Hornby deliberately undercut their retailers. Seems all is fair in love and model railways!Walkingthedog wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 6:48 pm Think they had a cheek. Re: Class 66`s
There is quite a big price difference between these new Hornby 66's and all the others, but under the body you can see were all the money has been saved, they don't appear to have any directional lights and a quite old drive system, looks like it was once a Lima model, if they ever did the 66, still lots of room for a nice big speaker to go with the appropriate sound decoder (TTS) other makes are available.
Also interesting that we now have 4 versions of the 66 in evening star colours now, 2 in 00 and 2 in N-gauge
Hope they bring out some lower detail lower cost rolling stock to go with them now
Paul

Re: Class 66`s
Look on RM Web DCC Sound forum at Richard Crofts topic, where he has recently had the top off a Hornby 66 to fit TTS and a decent speaker.
No real problem to fit lights, either chep via diy or a more expensive kit like Express Models.
