I have one and in standard form it's pretty useless. It is so lightweight that attempting to touch anything its holding results in it moving away or falling over. It needs either a much heavier base or fitting with some form of clamp to hold it steady.

I have the old fashioned heavy metal one, which works reasonably well. I binned the magnifying glass bit as it was always in the way.
I have also seen DIY ones made from sprung wooden clothes pegs.
