Hello!

Post by SuperSiLoco »

Hello all,

Thanks for accepting me into the forum. Looks like there is a lot of knowledgable people here!

I’ve just cleared through our loft and found an old train set that was gifted to me when I was 3 (back in around 1983). Somehow I managed to never open it as a child and so it’s just been sitting in the loft. It is an R543 Advanced Passenger Train Set.

I seem to recall this train had a troubled history and wasn’t a roaring success. It would be good to hear if anyone knows anything about this train set as i’ve always meant to look into it.

I now have two children, and my eldest son is now 7 and so I like the idea of getting him set up with a train set. I’m not sure whether to open the ATP, give I didn’t know how valuable it is. My other thought is to sell it and then buy a new set with the proceeds, given I don’t think my son is so particular about the ATP and prob would prefer a locomotive type train anyway!

Any help/thoughts/insights would be welcomed!

Many thanks and nice to meet you all (virtually)

Simon

Welcome to the friendly forum. I don't know about the value of your set but I do know that collectors of toys etc always like boxed objects and certainly like unopened/unused items.

A quick look on the bay shows prices £70 -£125 for used models , couldn't see an unopened one.
Good luck whichever way you go and welcome!
