Triang giraffe box car

#1

Post by Davreb05 »

I have just aquired a triang giraffe box car,
and need some information about how to open it so that I can make it operate.
The giraffe is inside the box car, so need to make him look out,
I know that I need to fit a magnet under the box car that will make the giraffe duck down, but need to
know how to make him stand back up.
Thanks for any advice.
David.

A magnet is fixed to the track, as the wagon passes over the magnet it pulls the giraffe down, the piece of track used to be fitted just before a bridge so his head missed the bridge and popped back up when the magnet had been passed. https://www.brightontoymuseum.co.uk/ind ... _Railways)

The giraffe in my box car is permanently down, need to know how
to open up the box car and where the spring would go to make the
giraffe stay up.

If you can’t see any screws underneath then it clips together. I reckon the roof unclips.

Of some interest. More details of how it worked and photos of the contents of the box it came in.

Odd that the site makes no mention of the length of magnetic track it came with.

Have you tried moving the lever underneath. Perhaps it it jammed.

What are the small black things underneath. Are they clips that can be disengaged to release the roof?

By the look of it the lever should have a magnet attached to it. The magnet is not on the track, a section of magnetic metal is in the centre of the track that attracts the magnet.

The leaver underneath moves freely, if pushed up the giraffe will pop out.
Just need some advice on how to open the box car so that I can get a
spring fitted to keep the giraffe up,then I can fix a magnet underneath,
then fit something to the track to attract the magnet that should then
pull down and lower the giraffe.
The black bits on the bottom look like they hold the mechanism in the box car,
but don't hold the roof on.
