There are clips on the bottom of the operating lever, that locate a Magnet.

Possibly a length of that flexible magnetic strip may work.

The original operating metal rails were simply single rails from the approx. 6 inch straight track. Super 4 type.

Not magnetic, the magnet on the operating lever is attracted towards the operating rails, as they are steel.

Having the operating rails upside down means that there is more steel to attract the magnet, as the rail is wider at the base.

These were slotted, Upside Down, into special mouldings that also clipped into Super 4 straight track sections.

There was also a "tell tale" made from plastic strips, hanging from a pole, not unlike a cross between an overhead power mast and a loading gauge.

This had no influence in the operation, but was meant to be placed at the point where the giraffe ducks...as if contact with the tell tale was what made the giraffe duck.
Best wishes,

Ruff.

Thanks for that information, I have managed to get some magnetic tape
that I can fix to the bottom of the giraffe car, will get some short bits of
metal to fix between the rails to attract the magnet.
I am hoping to fit bits so that the giraffe will duck under my station
footbridge and the entrance and exit of my tunnel.
If I get it to work I will try and post a video, but am busy decorating
at the moment so not got any railway time.
