One of my old colleagues is trapped on a cruise ship with his wife near Chile. Been on it trying to dock somewhere for weeks. Several people on board have died and now they are hoping to let those not infected transfer to another ship and hopefully get home.

I can see cruises becoming less attractive after this.

I find it hard to believe that cruises are still going ahead at present.

I think many passengers have been on these ships for sometime - how long have your friends been on this particular cruise?

I prefer the word irresponsible Brian.
Not known as floating Petri dishes for nothing.

Mind you Easyjet have a salesdrive on flights to all destinations for £29.99 through to February - I call that optimistic. :D

The ship, Zaandam of Holland America (Part of Carnival Corp) left Buenos Aires on March 7th on a cruise around South America, through the Panama Canal to Fort Lauderdale.

Since March 14th the ship has been continuously at sea unable to enter a port.

Panama would not allow the ship through the canal, so some passengers were transferred to 'Rotterdam' (a Company ship) at sea.
Panama is now allowing both ships through the canal 'for humanitarian reasons'.

edit- There are still 14 cruise ships around the world unable to dock at a port.

To be honest I cannot believe the intelligence of people booking any kind of travel in view of what is happening around the world
I do wonder if there are millionaires cruses out there for the duration. Not bad way to sit out the epidemic is it. Long as you are all fit when they get on board. If you could afford to do it. There are plenty who can.

There are people who boarded cruise ships at the beginning of January on World Cruises who are not due back to the UK until April or May.
I'll say no more otherwise this thread could be blocked.

Fortunately we did our World Cruise a few years back.
