Churchyard taking shape

#1

Post by ajcooper4 »

Good evening everybody. Rather than posting about the lumpy running of my 14XX I thought you might like to see my church and churchyard developing. The church has LED lights which are very effective although I found the LEDs too bright so I have wired in a resistor (oops can't remember which value I need to check the coloured bands!) so it glows rather than has you reaching for the sunglasses!

Once the grass is complete, the extra tree and gravestones are added plus, I think, a wedding coming out, I will give a final update.

I reduced the lighting in my signal box's and Brian recommended the following

Use a 4K7 or 10K series resistor per LED.

Very effective modelling. Lights make such a difference, especially when muted.

Nothing says “Britain” as much as an old church and its grounds. Beautifully rendered.

That’s a really nice church scene you’ve built. Have you thought about putting sound in there also, I put a small speaker in the bell tower and made it to connect to my iPhone nice a easy to do and then you can download lots of background music ie singing, bells, any background you want. It make a real difference to the feel of the scene.

Thank you for your kind comments. I did consider sound but decided against it for now. I may well add bells ringing at some point - I will make a hole where the wires for the lights come down through the board for a speaker if I get to that. Here's a picture of the latest.

The walls have been rather crudely done with cardboard but then who looks that close? I am going to add some sprigs and grass growing out of the wall then it will look a little more natural. The wall body was made from some old packing foam.

The gravestones are deliberately random - just like most churchyards I have ever seen.

When I had a church on my attoc layout several hundred years ago I had a wedding group being photgraphed in front of a bloke digging a grave.

I had a nice church on my last but one layout(It was N gauge and the only one I ever finished!). It had a wedding scene outside. I never thought much about sound then but my new layout, of which I've barely laid 10 feet of track, already has four speakers and more planned. Strangely enough I dont really care for loco mounted speakers though I'm sticking with DCC again.
