This is variation on a Dutch auction where you start with a high price an come down. As soon as someone makes and acceptable offer they get it.
It has the advantage for the seller is in that others cannot see what the item actually sold for. So it does not set a precedent for the particular item.

I've always thought the extra high prices on 'normal' items to be a form of money laundering and/or communication that the authorities can't track. Or maybe I'm just old and cynical!darkscot wrote: ↑Fri Nov 27, 2020 7:12 pm This is variation on a Dutch auction where you start with a high price an come down. Re: Looking for a Christmas pressie????
I think it goes both ways on ebay - you either have to pay over the top or you get a bargain. I won an auction today - there were nine items the same - six Buy it Now priced between £205 and £265 and three auctions, one starting at £32 and the others starting at £185 and £200. I went for the cheaper auction (described as New - we shall see!). I won the auction at £121 - a very low price - I think it was worth £185 any day of the week. The moral to this sale must be, as a seller, never start at too low a price. BB
