Small addition to the layout

#1

Post by PBoland »

Only for the grandchildren ;) Shops opening today so may be able to get some track at last! This is in addition to my main layout and will be just two lines A to B and back, thinking of during an auto reverse control. Can also use it as a test track after loco maintenance, however running out of space in the 'man cave', main layout with incline down to sidings underneath. Now this is elevated above the main layout will not be able to fit much more...

Looking good. That Metcalfe station building is quite something. I had it on my previous layout but needed a low profile (eg just the platform side) station building for my new layout. No problem I thought, I'll just cut this one down the middle lengthwise - wrong! After a great deal of cutting and sawing (yes, sawing with a junior hacksaw!) and no small amount of un-gentleman like language, I had to concede defeat. Shame is there is very little in the way of what I'm looking for so may have to scratchbuild.

Just trying to say what wonderfully strong buildings these Metcalfe kits make up. I also have the engine shed, which I swear (there I go again!) I could stand on. I won't be using it on my new layout so if anyone is interested PM me.

Sorry if I took us off topic. Your layout really is looking good PB :D

Cheers folks, a layout never finished.....
Yes Metcalfe for my needs are great, better than Superquick, I do have a mixture of everything. Now and again, I deviate from the instructions and yes have made low relief out of some with great difficulty.
A visit down the local train shop this weekend so track laying can begin.

Your layout is looking great. I made a Metcalfe engine shed then changed my mind and just used the front. A right s*d to cut - I too used a hacksaw. Testament again to how strong they are.

I have just seen on the Metcalfe website that they have discontinued that station.

Yep, checked and its gone!! I have another smaller one for the other end of this new section. Bought both back in the summer after lockdown, glad I did but probably some still out in the shops. I got mine in Trains4U Peterborough http://www.trains4u.com/
