Good grief - that was a "heart in mouth" moment until they got to the [spoiler alert] part. R-
Young at heart. Slightly older in other parts.

Plywood and fi-glass kit of a Brit powered by a truck engine in the tender which also ran the steam generators, and were running out of steam near the end.

Ye gads, I wasn't expecting that! Still, the final ploof was a bit anticlimactic. I had rather expected something along the lines of a small nuclear explosion, not a splat. Should have filled it with dynamite first.

None the less, one American wreck of a similar sized locomotive comes to mind. A bridge had washed out from a flood, and the locomotive went headlong into the gorge, plowing into the opposite bank. The poor devils in the cab were not among the survivors, obviously. However, the thing was dragged back to the shop and repaired and served another decade or so.

Knowing my luck with 'careers' my job would have been to go down and colect all the coal for re-use! :)
