Put this here to avoid hijacking the other thread.

Hard to believe I suppose, but I moved jobs to an outfit in Sussex in 1997 and because they had relocated from central London still gave staff £30 in LV’s every payday. I thought they went out with the ark.

Think we got them until about 2000. Might be wrong.

Luncheon vouchers were very useful. Tesco would take the whole book of vouchers as part payment when shopping.

Somewhere we have a book of green shield stamps from the '60's to '70's? Not sure. No later then the mid 70's. No idea where to spend them. :D

I also saved a few of the metal transport tokens. My grandmother used to get them, but also one or two people used to pay on the railways using them, so before I left I decided to pay cash from my wallet just so I could get a few for posterity as the railway did not mind as it was easier for them to deal in cash. I just thought the pictures on the tokens were interesting.

I was given a very unusual ticket during my time on the railway and this was a one day type travel pass that was given to a lady and her husband each day they needed to travel. At the end of the day they were no longer valid so would be binned, hence when she was goingto get off at her local unstaffed station I asked if I could have it. We had a lovely conversation as her husband is into his 0 gauge, and they both are involved with designing new signalling systems on the railway and they spent a year or two down in South Wales designing what was then the new bi-directional signalling system which came in just before I left. (The idea being that if both lines of the double track were designed to be used in both directions, then it would save time in having the rail gang etc hand signalling if something broke down on one of the lines, and could also enable trains to pass others if the path was clear (In theory) if a very slow moving train is in front. The signals were going to be replaced anyway as they were the old four aspect types which had been there for around 50 years so it was an ideal time for an upgrade.
Designing such a system can't be an easy job as there are so many safety conditions to be met. She said that her husband used his signal designs on his 0 gauge model railway as it was his area of expertize.
I am glad to have met the lady that time as I found it all fascinating.
