Sandy Hills The new layout
Re: Sandy Hills The new layout
Been busy over last three days building the embankment and bridge. Here is the progress so far . Most of the inclines are about 47 to 1 up to 30 to 1 I found it very hard getting it into a 9ft x 9ft room and if the bends are to sharp I will have to rip it up and have rethink. Have the last down run on the Sandy Hills side to finnish and then will test it out and hope 4 coach trains will manage those curves over the bridge end. Fingers crossed.

I had 4th rad and above curves on my OO layout in an 8x8ft room.

Im using over 2nd and third radius on the bridge hoping to leave room for a branch line terminus stn Sandy Hills (right side in pic) and mainline stn on left side. Will be able to use larger radius on full whith of the room of course but the bridge is in the centre. I am trying to buid a folded 8 main line. Doubt you had bridge over track on you old layout.

No I didn’t. The only thing that went up and down was my bank balance.

Are you saying you dont think it will work WTD. Are you looking at Hornby radius curve or Peco. I am working to Peco Radis not Hornby.

No I’m not saying it wont work. I was just saying you have a bit more room than I had. I only used Peco track and it is the same rad as Hornby. Peco setrack is identical to Hornby. Just the streamline points that are different.

Gradients do add a challenge which add interest to running trains. I enjoyed running trains up them carefully to see if they would make it!
Adding just enough power to get them up with their heavy loads without wheelslipping where they will need assistance of a banking engine.
