Sandy Hills The new layout

After painting the Main Line bridge today I have fitted it in place.

Wonderful image. The crisp retaining walls frame the scene perfectly. Gradually, I have become aware how much a fixture retaining walls are used on British model rail, as compared to North American model rail. That, and the frequency of elegant passenger trains, both commuter and long distance. I will be studying Henley, a little, today, with an eye towards adding in retaining walls.

One thing I dare not imitate is the bilevel track. My experiments with such in the past fared poorly, and moreover, the single wheeled beauties I employ would not tolerate anything greater than a rise of, say, 0.0000000000001%. It's the canal by-way for me.

Thanks twalton. I has taken about 14 months to get this far Hope to get on with the stations next. Going to try and cut out some platforms from about 15mm ply shape them with my jig saw. I think that 15mm is about right This is going to be fun I am not very good with jig saws. I have given up with the idea of using the Metcraft platform kit I bought, as I think I will end up with a soggy mess when I ballast the tracks.

I have replied to your PM.
Peco Platform walling is very good, especially in my case, as one of their kits is for SR Concrete Platform walling. I just glued it in position, made a 3mm (1/8th) simple frame from balsa wood and placed a 1.5/2mm(?) plasticard surface on top. All very simple and cheap. Some of the Peco walling comes with stick-on brickwork - I'm not sure how durable that is.

Looks amazing. Now, with the concrete platforms, I am guessing this is what, early 1950's?

Not been a good year for me so not done much to Sandy hills this year. Things will soon change.have just finished the banks of the tunnel portals and built platform for the branch terminus which will be named Sandy Hills. Just started cutting out the platforms for the main line which will be called Galloway West. Here is quick pic of the branch line terminus.

Is it N gauge? Trying to make out from the pictures. Love the old type Gaugemaster usits. So much nicer to use than the modern tiny type of controllers they make today. Shame they don't bring back those as an option for those of us who have large hands as a twin track modern Gaugemaster controller of s single or twin with similator has its control knobs spaced to close to each other so is not so erganomically nice to use, even if they are space saving. The old ones were just right! The only improvement possible for me would be a nice metal toggle switch instead of a slide switch and maybe nice luxury metal control knobs to match. Wonder if it would sell if they came out with one? Can dream!

But yes. You have a nice layout coming along there.
