Hi, I have a DC Bachman Kinlet Hall which will not start but runs well if I flick the motor manually. Contacts etc are clean but I have to remove covers to make it start - not a good look.
Any ideas please?

Could be an open circuit winding. You would need to check continuity between windings with a meter

Thankyou, I have no idea how to do that. Will try and find a YouTube video. Dave

Kinlet Hall is a 8 pin DCC ready loco from around 2004/5
Therefore it will be a blank 8 pin decoder in the DCC socket, it may be possible this may have developed a fault and may be an idea to change the blank decoder.
I assume you are using the loco on DC, if you need a replacement blank decoder to try send me message with your address and I will post you one.

If it runs OK when you flick the motor perhaps the loco may need lubricating.

It does sound like something has too much friction somewhere with it?

I would remove the motor but leave it connected. You can then check if motor starts without help and at same time try turning the drive mechanism by hand to test for free turning.
