Expanded readership is always welcome but as you say quality is paramount. Some forums can become a big like an old boys network and we wouldn’t want that. I’m one of the guilty parties I’m afraid - I read posts every day and occasionally ask advice. However, I haven’t posted progress on my layout for a long time. I will rectify this very soon - promise!

Brian makes a valid point, the forum has been very quiet recently as have other forums. The Hornby forum (for all its faults) only livened up when the new range, and in particular, HM7000, was announced but even that has slowed up again.

However, his comment was not directed at any one individual so it is sad to see that some may have taken it personally.

January is traditionally a quiet month for life in general and a railway forum is no different in that respect to the local supermarket - foot flow is slow after Christmas. And if some members have put modelling on hold or have been distracted by real life, then so be it.

I’m not convinced a larger membership would necessarily be a good thing - I prefer quality over quantity.

I shall now return to my quest to perfect one handed modelling - shaky photos may follow.

i demolished a bit of my layout last week for a bit more loft space and when i take some pics i`m gonna have some Skaledale etc buildings to sell, today i`m gonna sort out all my scenery stuff pruning down a bit

I have been quiet for three reasons.

First is everything is packed away and being stored. Then I am on a borrowed tablet (Mums) which is no where near as good as mine that decided not to charge, so have no hope of clicking on links that people add (Throws me out of Google if I try) or any hope of loading photos. The third reason is my ability to take photos and use them is not really available at the moment. Not been able to downsize photos even onthe last tablet I had, and tried two hosting sites, none of which would download due to our internet.
Soo... All I can do for now is to wait until after I relocate, settle down and then start to build a permanent layout again! (I miss not having a permanent layout). I do have other plans as well. Maybe best not share them yet as it would spoil the fun!
I do hope to be able to get a new computer device after things settle so I can take photos and hopefully downsize them on my side. That way they will load better as well.

For now, all I can do is use this borrowed tablet just to make the occasional comment. I do pop in now and then though usually read things without logging in just as I am lazy!

One noticable feature I have seen of late (Been there myself and done that in the past) is the increasing number of threads with various DCC issues and the expert advice given to solve them... Often advice beyond my spere of experience as DCC has moved on. The principles are the same though. Clean track.Good electrical contact. Clean wheels etc so one can at least give ones decoders every chance to pick up both contact and DCC signal. But by nature of DCC having more advancements where I marvel as I did not even think whe. DCC sound came in, that apart from linking to a PC (That back then had to beWindows 95, 98 or XP), one would have thought that things could not get more advanced from there whsn Lenz had the"Feedback" feature. But I am now "Old school" in such technology so I can not assist, so many of these threads I can't offer advice. One either embraces new technology and continually pays out to keep up with the latest of what is out there, or one retreats simplifies and goes ones own way in what works best for you, which is what I have done. Nothing wrong with either approach (DC or DCC) or the many others such as radio control, clockwork, pull string or push along! Whatever one enjoys the most!

When I do finally get back on my modelling feet, and I am a bit more prepared PC wize, I will have to begin an all new thread as older threads I wrote no longer have any photos to view. A new thread with new beginnings is an adventure of its own!

And now there is bluetooth control over the air avoiding noisy and dirty rails affecting the DCC signal.
