Sharge track cleaner

This year i will be 80, and my lady wife wants to buy one of these, as at least something towards that infernal train room. Now at £105, are they worth the money, or would a CMX which , i understand is expensive, be a better bet. She rejects my piece of hardboard.

I note the cmx on ebay, but they want £18 to post it, and £20 odd for customs, which does not apply, and post is a rip off.

John,I have the Sharge - works ok although the pad tend seem to catch on point motor pins and any scenery that is close to the rails. Although I suspect that won’t be a concern for you . You do need a fairly strong loco to drag it round though.

Hi, Steve, thanks. We are out of ideas for a birthday present. Heather said every time i went upstairs i had to spend hours cleaning. Seemed a possible solution. You are right about Ballast and Scenery. Dont bother with any of that.

Obviously it depends on what you are trying to clean from the track - it won’t deal with heavy oxidation as it is just a pad soaked from a reservoir of IPA. Great for the general dirt but when I leave my layout for any length of time I have to resort to the track rubber or occasionally the Dapol cleaner (last resort).

Hi, Steve. Have not been upstairs for 12 weeks,due to heat, and Birthday nor till August. Sounds like I am better staying as I am with hardboard, and track rubber. I have 2 Dapol ones, DCAnd DCC, for hovering.
