Hello all, just joined

Looking for advice how to sell my Hornby train set, including the Duchess of Montrose train and various other items, it was on a 8'x4' 3/4 blockboard sheet originally.

My father purchased the set for me in 1957 and having played with it a couple of years it was put back in the box/boxes and stored in a suitcase, they have been with me ever since, through divorces many house moves etc.

I'll age 80 in a couple of weeks and I think it's about time I moved them on, all as new.

Hope I'm posting this in the right section.

Regards

Hi
I assume this is original Hornby Dublo three rail?
Try ebay (look for something being sold similar to give an idea of its worth) https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw= ... m570.l1313 or if you want to, obtain a monthly model railway magazine like Hornby Mag / Railway Modeller etc and there are lots of adverts for specialist second-hand dealers/purchasers.
I would mention that often the offered price is not what is anticipated and can be a lot lower than you may have thought it was worth. :o

Note; you cannot sell on here until ten meaningful posts have been made - sorry.

eBay should get you the best price but you have to do a bit of work taking photos etc, local model shops may be interested but will usually pay a fairly low price (they have to make a profit). Auctioneers may achieve somewhere between the 2 or you could get an excellent or a poor price and they will charge a commission on anything they sell.

Thanks for the replies.

Brian, I was hoping to avoid eBay because of potential fraud, I thought an enthusiast site with decent/honest posters would be safer, however now looking at the sale section it does not attract much traffic?

eBay sales are perfectly safe provided you follow all the appropriate rules.
Take lots of photos and give accurate and honest descriptions of goods for sale.
Don't post it until payment is received.
Always send via recorded delivery with adequate insurance.
You can also block sales to certain countries if necessary and don't be tempted to accept offers to reduce postage.

I have sold over 1000 items on ebay without any problems. It is also FREE to sell now no fees at all, so its a win win. Your item you have, will find its best price on ebay.
