Although the weather has been absolutely dire, the wind dropped today and I managed to get a bit of practice in with my drone.
This is a screenshot from the footage - wasn’t expecting to see a loco but managed this just as the batteries were running out after filming sheep from a height of 100’.

Already booked the cottage for next year.
Lovely image Steve.
Are you now in lockdown up there?
Strangely enough, no. I believe the restricted zone starts just north of the moors (possibly Middlesbrough) and then over towards Leeds and West Yorkshire - the East Riding is still at a similar level to the south east of England. Judging by the behaviour of some that won’t last long.
We ‘clocked on’ using the new NHS app at anywhere we visited so hoping we don’t get a call in the next few days.

However, I will be locked down when I return from Portugal at the end of October - already booked extra time off to cover that.

Great footage - should it have sound? Mine didn't. Barry

Regrettably no sound Barry, but then again, all it would hear would be the buzz of the drone motors.

Brilliant - I think you have another burgeoning career there Steve.

Can you geo-lock the drone? It seemed very still at the beginning. Almost as if it were on a tripod.

Thanks Roger. Geolocation - a posh way of saying it's stays put. :D
Yes, it automatically holds position wherever it's is 'parked' and will hold it even against the wind. Well, that's the theory. That only works in winds up to 17mph and then it gives you a warning.
It caught me out though - it will return to its take off site at the push of a button, but it does it at a height of 50m to avoid trees etc. I pressed the button, it shot up to 50m and the wind blew it two fields away before I could get it to land.
Could have been an expensive mistake.

If you've been on the top of the NYMoors in a gale you wouldn't ask this.
