The late) John Thompson, one of the drivers' for W. A. Glendinning''s of Shotley Bridge, County Durham, would regale many a tale well into the early hours. Here he is with his wagon

The model lorry is a lovely tribute to Mr Thompson.
It does not take me long to do five minutes work.

Thanks Puddles.
As a lad I seemed to be around road transport quite a lot. Drivers' of Companies would take me ( with my Aunt or Uncle's permission) to Hull or Liverpool (Hudson Ward Flour Miller's), then to the North East of England (Archbold's Storage & Distribution)
Then when I started working I moved to the North East of England and met John Thompson. At weekends, over a glass of whisky (or two) the stories of his road transport days would be told.
As an aside he told me he always wanted to fly in a aeroplane, but never had a chance. I won a ticket for a trip on Concorde. Aeroplanes are not my thing. His memory of the trip remains forever.

Loving that Diesel filled yard ! - was beginning to think you had gone fully over to the Steam and canal barges - LOL
Re: Diesels at Crown Point.
Heck! No! What with 50 diesels or so AND train daft grandchildren -- Not a chance. The youngest grandchild ( now four year old) If she isn't amongst the 1-1 stuff at Waverley Heritage or Locomotion in Shildon, loves to be 'in charge' of a Class 55 or Class 52.
The 'fun' of the layout for me now, is that both steam and diesel trains run in the same area of Leeds; just 50 or 60 years apart. I just have to make sure when running diesels that all the relevant steam items are removed ( and vice-versa.)
