Black label problem
Black label problem
Whilst having the model run on a layout that I’m working on to test if it there are any problems are junctions and such , I noticed smoke coming out from the wheels of the loco
To make sure this isn’t just the smoke from the chimney drifting to the wheels I put it on a rolling road and record it
If anyone knows how to solve this issue or what might cause it please do comment

A little dingy , but I’ll get there

Re: Black label problem
Looks like loco has been over filled with smoke oil, it will burn off in time. Only a few drops are required.
Re: Black label problem
It has been running for 15-20minutes still same thing is happening
Is there some sort of seal that needs changing ?

Re: Black label problem
You will need to remove the body and clean the smoke unit out, reassembly and refit. This is the smoke unit

Re: Black label problem
Any chance you could help me take the body off without damaging the lights at the front of the locomotive?

Re: Black label problem
Firstly detach tender from loco, ideally a loco holder is best for these models to protect them, a piece of foam or tubular pipe lagging works. Under the loco are 4 screws 2 front and 2 rear the body lifts up when these are removed, now carefully unplug the wires that stop the body come off. The smoke unit is now easy to remove. Care should be taken on reassemble and dont over tighten the small screws on smoke unit.
Re: Black label problem
Thanks for the help all sorted out
Found the cause of the problem
Bought this loco used two weeks ago
Understandable as to why it had the problem
Cotton was burnt to crisp

Re: Black label problem
Well done, its looks like the one element may be the problem too, try to clean the element up very carefully, im not sure what the wadding is made from.
Re: Black label problem
I just used vape cotton and it seems to work absolutely fine
Cleaned the heating element up as well
Wondering if the MTH heating elements could be used as replacements when these ones go bad. Haven’t been able to find any replacements for those from dapol or dcc supplies
