Are Ratio coal bunkers 30% smaller?
Are Ratio coal bunkers 30% smaller?
I have been looking online for some coal bunkers to add to the existing ones on my layout. I am sure the ones I have, bought many years ago, are the Wills Kits ones and consist of three bunkers. However, the latest ones consist of only two!

Have they got smaller or did I perhaps buy two kits all those years ago? £5.50 seems a lot for these, though not as much as they are on Amazon!

You can make those easily with wooden coffee stirrers. Either from coffee shops or like these. Just an example.

That is a great idea! I suspect they have a host of other uses on the layout.Walkingthedog wrote: ↑Wed May 26, 2021 8:23 pm You can make those easily with wooden coffee stirrers.

You bet. I collect a handful when ever I have coffee out. Got the family collecting them as well. Good for stirring paint and wood loads in wagons etc.

So last weekend we went to the East Lancashire Railway to see the Union of South Africa. Whilst waiting for the train at Bury we had a cup of tea and a very memorable (in a good way) meat pie. I was delighted to discover they use wooden stirrers. So after going through the bins I procured enough to make the coal yard ‘fencing’ below, which I am very pleased with.

They look great. When I have a coffee out, for some reason it takes at least 10 stirrers to stir the coffee.

You've made a really nice job of them, well done.
