collett bow ended coaches

I have a set of collett coaches that have LH and RH indications on them what dose this mean when setting up a train

It allows you to have the corridors all on the same side.

I understand it isn’t to do with the corridor but should only be used on coaches with a guards compartment. The guard should be at the left or right end when viewing the coach from the corridor side, meaning you would have a guard compartment at each end of the rake of coaches.

Coaches without guards shouldn’t be labelled as such.

I could be wrong of course.
