Accurascale Manor

Recently received Accurascale model of Torquay Manor. Excellent model, but seems to be very prone to wheel slip on track that I don't have problems with other locos. Even the Dapol version runs well. Anyone else found similar ?

Understand your point but Dapol Manor weighs 305g, Accurascale 345g. Really confirms my impression that the accurascale is quite a heavy loco. Thanks for your reply.

I know this is a daft question but have you cleaned the wheels. Out of the box they may have had a protective coat on them. Unlikely but you never know.

Hmm, that weight isn't significantly different enough to cause the wheel-slip.

could you give us more information on where you are getting this slipping? on curves? gradients? etc...

I would have though that a heavy loco would be less likely to slip. Grip was one reason to add weight. I have added weight to locos in the past to improve their grip.

I agree sandy the heavier the better, within reason.

Sorry, I miss-read the post... yes, being heavier should increase the adhesion on the rails, and thus give less slippage, not more.

Based on that, and some details taken from (breathe in) Sams Trains reviews of the two models, my guesses are

• that the springing on the leading bogie is such that it is taking more of the weight of the loco, off of the driving wheels.

or

• one or more of the non-driven wheels is stiff, increasing the required effort to haul a train.

In Sam's review he does mention the pulling-power of each loco (it's admittedly less than scientific, but it's all I have), The Accurascale shouldn't be having any issues as its more powerful than the Dapol model.
