Re: Baseboard materials?
No one has mentioned compressed paper board sold under the name 'Sundela'. A lot of good model shops stock it as 1200 x 600 mm sheets (4 x2 feet for wrinklies), 12 mm (1/2 inch) thick. Fine and takes pins BUT tends to droop in high humidity and so needs more support at reduced spacings to that recom...

Re: Glue or pin rail?
Ooh..! What a lovely discussion, can I add my 2 pennorth, please? :D I think it is all a personal choice and what an individual is happy with. I have been modelling for many years, but still not very good, and have constructed several layouts. The choice of material for the baseboard will dictate to...

Re: Hornby Pullman coaches
I am afraid not, I have already spotted screws under the bogies in the bodyshell, and the parts diagram appears to indicate that the cam plates are screwed to the body, but the screws are inaccessible with the bogie in situ. BTW -this is the third variation in body assembly that I have come across o...

Re: Hornby Pullman coaches
Thank you for the advice - Steve M. So it appears there is permanent damage and much swearing involved if I attempt to replace the broken component. Might be wiser to simply cut the offending dropper on the hook. Cogitation before action, then.

Re: Hornby Pullman coaches
I have recently acquired a set of Pullman coaches ex- Devon Belle set. Unfortunately one of the cam couplings has a broken retaining pin and the tail of the coupling hook fouls the track at crossings etc. I wish to get the bogies off to effect a repair but cannot see how the body unclips. Is it a si...

Re: Hornby Pullman coaches
Hornby have produced several versions of Pullman Coaches over the years, the more recent are to finer tolerances and with more detail, including the wheels and some of the older ones have deeper flanges. You also might like to check that the wheels are in fact clean. I run a DCC controlled layout an...

Re: WC/BoB R30129
Thank you! Success! Many thanks for the information. There are two lugs protruding forward on the front of the tender body that engage in slots in the chassis, but they are a tight fit and without any taper so it is a matter of pulling the tender body downwards until the moulding at the rear which c...

WC/BoB R30129
I am endeavouring to fit a decoder chip in my new BoB (new model?) but am having great difficulty in getting the tender body off the chassis. According to the Hornby instruction leaflet it should separate by pullling down and rearwards on the chassis once the rear screws have been removed and the ha...

Re: Decoder gremlins
Thank you for the responses, I will investigate further with the information you have provided. As you say binary maths are essential and the instructions assume that you are familiar with it, sadly I am a grumpy old git and am finding it difficult to understand the processes. It's a long time since...

Decoder gremlins
I started building my DCC layout when I moved house and like 'Topsy' it has grown to the limit of space available over the past 9 years. I discovered the hard way that the track and wheels need to be gleaming to ensure good operation of the locos on DCC, but then started to get locos hesitant to sta...
