I agree with using wet and dry paper in the finer grades - even the finest ballasting materials look over scale.

It doesn’t really make ant difference what ever the scale particularly if you decide to ballast the track. Reminds me of the times I've used toothpaste to polish out scratches in clear plastic windows and canopies - works well and the model has a lovely minty smell afterwards.
