Re: Question about operations on my layout / signal positions
As Brian has said, definitely a lot of really interesting insight here Ancient Bear! I really appreciate you taking the time to share the knowledge. But yes it was 2 years ago I posted this (I’m not sure why it showed in recent), I haven’t actually got round to adding scenery to this layout, because...

How do operations work on this track plan?
Hi, I'm looking to start a new layout, and I have a first draft of a track plan which I have based off of Burton Latimer's (Northamptonshire, Midland Railway, Midland Mainline) goods yard from the 1950s. I'd like to know more about the sort of operations and moves that might have taken place. My que...

Re: Do I need a shunt ahead signal here?
Thanks LC&DR. Very useful and interesting information. Now that I’m justified in not having a shunt ahead, I won’t bother with it. I did actually have one built up and almost ready, but part of it broke, meaning almost all of it has to be repainted and rebuilt. I don’t think I can face doing it ...

Do I need a shunt ahead signal here?
Hi, Era being modelled: BR late crest. Region, somewhere in the midlands, originally a Midland railway turned LMS, turned BR LMR, but fictitious. Annotated photos for reference below. I have a small goods yard which is to be served by pick up / drop off goods trains, where trains will need to shunt,...

Re: Question: Does it make sense if I have platform under a road bridge?
Thanks Ted, that’s a useful reference!
Come to think of it now, I’ve just realised Beeston station has platform under bridge at the very end of the platform.
If anyone else knows any places like this, let me know.

Question: Does it make sense if I have platform under a road bridge?
Hi, My N gauge layout isn't all that long so the station platform isn't either. I don't want a layout that is all station, but ideally, it would be nice for the station to be long enough to cater for realistic train lengths. I'm going to have a plate girder road bridge exiting the layout going over ...

Straight Drain Pipes (and other bits) Made from Twigs
Here’s a post just explaining how I made some convincing drainpipes from not much more than straightened twigs. I imagine this technique might be useful for many other things, and is much much cheaper than using plastruct (Also I think these are less likely to snap than plastic). Having accidentally...
