I meant the part number on the side of motor if you still have the body off, but if you have put the body back on dont bother. As you have had it for a while it would still have the old motor for sure. Hornby are staying very quiet about the poor motors in the RR Scotsman -Tornado and the P2.

John I read that this is a good P2 motor replacement although it doesn’t have a flywheel.

Nothing on the motor to identify it John. Runs absolutely fine by the way.

I’ve ordered some lining for the tender (Hornby left the black off the white/black/white lines) and etched brass nameplates. Still puzzling over the best/easiest way to replicate the red chassis lining.

Thanks, Steve for looking. Odd it had no numbers on it so that is very hopeful you have one of the 5 pole better motors in yours. If not it is an easy fix. Thank you Steve

Another Bachmann/TTS conversion completed. This time it’s a Bachmann Black 5 fitted with the Hornby Black 5 TTS decoder.
The model is designed to take a 21 pin decoder so I had to use a 21:8 converter for the 8 pin TTS plug. This actually made the stack of socket/adapter/plug too high to fit in the tender so I had to shorten the mounting posts in the tender to lower the whole lot by about 2mm. The decoder and sugarcube speaker sit comfortably on the tender weight.
All in all a simple job.

Having successfully added TTS to the Railroad P2, I thought it might make sense to upgrade the detail with additional lining, correct lettering style, etched plates and a bit of light weathering.

I'd be no good - for some reason concentration make me tremble. Trying to use a screwdriver for small screws is a nightmare. R-
