Restoring old locos
Have any of you guys restored old locomotives? I have a few that are over 50 year old most notably an old Triang blue Pullman. Is it possible to get spares and if so where from.
I have managed to get a Wrenn A4 Sir Nigel Gresley running after about 25 year lying in a box, was trying to upload a video but don't know how you do it.

Re: Restoring old locos
Hi
The answer to your question is yes.
It all depends on what spares are required for which locomotives of what age.
It will be worth obtaining the service sheet for old Triang, Triang Hornby Hornby Margate and China to match the locos you have, other makers service sheets may be obtainable,
The best thing about older models is they are home repairable.

Some spares are not easily available but are available. Ebay is a good place to look as is Peters Spares and other sites.

Service sheets are available from Lendons.

Re: Restoring old locos
One source of 'spares' is ebay where old locos are often sold as 'Spares or repair' - depending on the parts needed it can be economic to buy an old loco with damaged body to use as spares, or a good body with missing wheels or motor.
Many parts are common to locos so buying one type doesn't mean you can use the spares only for the same type.

Re: Restoring old locos
Guy's,
Thanks very much for the reply's and advice, after looking up some service sheets to make sure I identified the correct parts I have ordered some spares. I have actually managed to get the motor from the old blue Pullman working(after a bit of soldering to fix a couple of broken wires), I was a bit amazed last time that worked was over 50 years ago it needs a new pickup spring which I have ordered.
Thanks again.
John.

Re: Restoring old locos
Lendons of Cardif has a mountain of spare parts.
But but often robing old scrap locos is good idea. If you can find them.

I hope that all goes well. One gets a gret feeling when one fixes old locos.

Re: Restoring old locos
I am slowly working on a loco chassis that I hope to get working. I plan to adapt an 0-6-0 to become an 0-4-0.
