I was concerned by soldering at first. My practice attempts were poor. But the first time I did it for real it went well and decided I like it. I think two things worked for me:
1) Clean the track first with glass paper or a fibre glass pen. This is very important. Once or twice I've tried to give it a miss and the result is solder that prefers to stay on the iron.
2) Put the wire in place before inserting it through the baseboard. One guide I read suggested putting it in place first then bending it over and soldering it. That just doesn't work for me - I need the freedom to move the wire around as much as I want.
