I have had two Peco turntables operating on my layout for almost ten years. Both powered by Locomotech motors, and as WTD said - they are almost silent in operation - they turn at 2rpm. Both turntable and motors are first class products. The only downside is that you have to line up the tracks by eye, which if it is close-by is easy, if it is a distance away that might be a problem. I believe someone made an indexing system for this turntable - but not cheap. The Peco turntable is realistic to those seen throughout the UK in the steam era.
The polarity changes as the table turns - no additional "equipment" required.
